Literacy and Deaf Education

Literacy and Deaf Education: Toward a Global Understanding offers an international perspective on theoretical and applied literacy research for deaf learners. The work responds to the fact that approximately ninety percent of deaf children live outside the United States, learning varied signed and spoken languages alongside diverse writing systems.

The volume organizes research from projects across fifteen countries and regions into parts dedicated to alphabetic and non-alphabetic writing systems. Coverage extends from birth through high school, examining communication methodologies, bilingual education, and Deaf cultural developments.
