Modern Sociological Theory

Modern Sociological Theory, 9th Edition, provides an overview of prominent thinkers and schools of sociological thought. The textbook traces the development of social ideas from their nineteenth-century origins through the mid-twentieth century.

The volume addresses classical roots across Europe alongside major modern paradigms, including structural functionalism, systems theory, and conflict theory. It also reviews symbolic interactionism, neo-Marxian perspectives, and contemporary feminist theorizing.

Organized chronologically, the text incorporates biographical boxes designed to help students situate theoretical perspectives within personal and social contexts. This chronological framework also supports the use of supplementary readers for classroom discussion and conceptual study.
