The Creative Arts in Counseling

The Creative Arts in Counseling, 5th Edition, by Samuel T. Gladding, examines how creative expression can be used in counseling with clients of diverse ages and backgrounds. Published by the American Counseling Association, this textbook explores the clinical application of major expressive modalities alongside their theoretical foundations.

Coverage spans established modalities such as music, dance and movement, imagery, visual arts, writing and literature, drama, play, and humor. In addition, the 2016 fifth edition introduced animal-assisted therapy, therapeutic horticulture, and nature or wilderness experiences.

Designed for clinicians, instructors, and students, each chapter includes practical exercises for immediate clinical practice along with creative reflections intended to foster personal and professional self-evaluation.
