Trans Feminist Epistemologies in the US Second Wave

Trans Feminist Epistemologies in the US Second Wave examines the intellectual ties between trans feminism and the second wave feminist movement in the United States. Author Emily Cousens questions the assumption that trans feminism was inherently antagonistic to second wave feminism or only emerged after it took place.

The volume reconsiders trans epistemologies as vital sites of second wave theorizing. It analyzes overlooked philosophies of sex and gender articulated in underground print publications alongside the prominent arguments of Andrea Dworkin.

Published in the Breaking Feminist Waves Series, this 230-page study demonstrates that trans feminist epistemologies formed a central part of second wave knowledge production and created an enduring, unacknowledged theoretical legacy.
