Conceptual Metaphor in Social Psychology

Conceptual Metaphor in Social Psychology: The Poetics of Everyday Life, 1st Edition, synthesizes over twenty-five years of research into the cognitive foundations of social life. The book examines how individuals and groups rely on metaphor to grasp abstract concepts, formulate judgments and decisions, communicate, and organize behavior.

Drawing on international experimental research, the text shows how human actions are shaped by and reflected in bodily functioning, cultural contexts, and language. It explains how people often unconsciously apply metaphoric structures to coordinate social interaction and interpret complex realities.

Written for researchers in social psychology and students of human behavior, the volume connects empirical findings to enduring questions about personal identity and the social world.
