The Racial Order

The Racial Order, 1st Edition, presents a theoretical framework for race scholarship. The volume draws upon the thought of Pierre Bourdieu, Émile Durkheim, and John Dewey to analyze how race functions in American life.

The book investigates how the racial order is structured, reproduced, and transformed, as well as how it affects racialized subjectivities. Beyond race alone, the analysis extends to core problems of order, agency, power, and social justice.

Organized around themes of reflexivity, relationality, and reconstruction, the work unites social theory, institutional and cultural analysis, and normative inquiry. It considers the purposes and methods through which racial arrangements can be reshaped.
